 CARMELO AND CARMELO

One of the Carmelos in the photo below is my cousin and lives in Librizzi, the other Carmelo is a Theater Director and lives in Northern Italy. The two young men are both named Carmelo Rifici. My cousin Carmelo has a beautiful website at  www.librizziacolori.eu    and it so happens that one day the Carmelo who is a Director discovered the website and fell in love with it. He also was intrigued by the person who carries the same name as his. The Director contacted my cousin and they became friends, so one day the Director went to Librizzi to meet his friend. They liked each other so much that they became 'cousins'.

Well, my cousin Carmelo is extremely proud of his 'cousin' Carmelo who last night was awarded the equivalent of an Oscar, or better yet a Tony,  for Best Director. The play is "I Pretendenti", a comedy written by Jean-Luc Lagarce who died at the age of 38.

I am sure that the name Jeremy Irons is well known in the USA, he too was honored with the International Award for his work in the "Merchant of Venice".

For more information on Carmelo Rifici the Director please go to   http://www.librizziacolori.eu/regista/carmelo_rifici_regista.htm  While you are there you might want to check out my cousin Carmelo's beautiful website.

  3. Hello Mildred, and thank you. The director is only 35 and I found it heartwarming that he would take the time to go find a person with the same name.

  4. Hello, Maria,

Such an interesting post ~ and I see that you are in the place of honor at the top of your cousin's website! It is beautiful, and so interesting.

I had to laugh at all this for another reason. Another blogger I read, a wonderful photographer and thinker, sometimes puts his musings into the form of conversation between Carmela and Tony.
When I saw that one of your Carmelos had won the equivalent of a Tony - well, I just laughed.

I'm anxious to come back and spend a bit of time with the black madonna - I'm just astounded by the richess and diversity of the culture you present to us!

  5. Good morning Shore, thank you. I do enjoy sharing a little bit of historical diverseness. I have always thought that the American melting pot was actually a Sicilian invention.

I may look for the Carmela and Tony blog,it sounds interesting. Some day I may post the story of Nino, Nino, and Ninetta. A true tragicomedy involving some of my extended ancestral family. (I wrote the story in my private memories genealogy book.)

I read your heartwarming, historically interesting, informative, story about the Texas and hurricane aftermaths. Thank you for giving us such well thought perspectives.

  6. Hello, and thank you for sharing the Carmelo story.

Shoreacres (Linda), forwarded the comment you tried to leave on my blog. I am the author of the Tony and Carmina pieces. I am glad you enjoy them, and and am pleased you plan to read more of them.

Librizzi looks beautiful. Perhaps someday my wife and I will have the pleasure of visiting there. We were able to visit Firenze and other parts of Tuscany in 2007 and plan to visit Italy again.

I often tell people I must have some Italian heritage. I love Italian food, wine, art, music and the country. But the truth is my heritage is German.

    Thanks again.

I do hope that you and your wife will return to beautiful Tuscany, and add a few other regions to your visit.
My husband and I spent a month this May-June in Italy. We were on a Tuscany tour and we enjoyed every bit of the visit.
    Thank you, Maria
